Summer School 2025

Applications for the annual CoRE IPD Summer School have officially closed. If you are still interested in attending and do not require funding, please send a motivated request for late consideration to Imaan Mohamed.
The Summer School provides an opportunity to engage with leading academics on critical issues affecting development in Africa. In the first week, The Roots of Poverty, Inequality and Deprivation in Africa will explore the historical, political, and socio-economic dimensions of inequality. Topics include the role of colonial legacies, gender dynamics, political economy, and financial exclusion, along with normative and empirical approaches to understanding inequality.
The second week offers practical, hands-on courses in Rigorous Impact Evaluations, and Practical training for designing and analysing panel data using Ghanaian panel survey data. These courses have been designed to equip participants with cutting-edge tools and will cover methodologies such as RCTs, difference-in-differences, propensity score matching, explore the benefits and challenges of using longitudinal data to answer policy- relevant research questions (such as those related to education, labour market outcomes and inequality). Both courses focus on data quality, with practical sessions using STATA.
Fees are €300 for one course or €500 for two. A limited number of scholarships are available to support elective fees, travel, and accommodation costs.
This Summer School will take place in Accra, Ghana, at the University of Ghana. Week 1 runs from 22 – 26 July, and Week 2 from 28 - 31 July 2025.
