The Cluster of Research Excellence in Inequalities, Poverty, and Deprivation (CoRE IPD) is one of 20 Africa-Europe Clusters of Research Excellence that bring together top researchers from African and European universities.
This partnership was initiated in 2023 by the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities (The Guild) to bolster indigenous African research capabilities and foster equitable collaborations across continents on societal and scientific challenges.
The CoRE IPD unites a network of world-class researchers, including ARUA partners from the University of Ghana, the University of Nairobi, and the University of Cape Town; and The Guild partners from Aarhus University, the University of Gottingen, and the University of Gröningen. Together, they address the scientific challenge of reducing inequality to alleviate poverty and deprivation in Africa, a continent with profound interregional disparities.
Special focus is placed on the roles of women and youth in shaping sustainable futures, aligning closely with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 10, which aims to reduce inequalities.
The CoRE IPD signifies an unprecedented move towards integrating research excellence with comprehensive capacity building, including joint postgraduate programmes and training for policymakers, civil society, and businesses. This ensures a holistic approach to tackling one of the most pressing challenges of our time.
