ARUA Early-Career Research Fellowships: Now Open to Researchers at The Guild Institutions
The African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA), with support from the Mastercard Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation of New York, launched the Early-Career Research Fellowships programme in July 2025. The programme is designed to support emerging African scholars to pursue high-quality, globally competitive research through residential fellowships hosted at ARUA member universities.
Thanks to ARUA’s collaboration with The Guild of European Research Universities, eligibility for the fellowships has now been extended. African early-career researchers who meet ARUA’s eligibility criteria and who are based at The Guild institutions are now invited to apply.
Fellowships must be hosted at an ARUA university connected to one or more of the Africa-Europe Clusters of Research Excellence (CoREs). Please note that funding cannot be used to support time spent at The Guild institutions.
Each fellowship spans six months, with placements running up to 30 June 2026. Applications are open on a rolling basis via the ARUA website. In total, up to 42 fellowships will be awarded, with several already underway.
